Scratchbuilt Grubenhaus Finished!

Several months ago, I saw these Grubenhaus Plans on Mitch's Wargaming Blog, and I decided to build one.  I started with just some cast off packaging from when I bought my new computer, some matchsticks, and a thing of rabbit fur.

I then cut and sanded a base out of 1/4" plywood, mounted it and applied BASICS Modeling Paste.

Using some sprues from a box of plastic figures, I cut up some firewood. Also mounted a tree base, and put some rocks in place.

Painted the paste a brown base color.

Lots of drybrushing later, I had a painted Grubenhaus.  Added flock, leaving a clear space for some crops.

The finished Product!

On top of the sprue firewood, I added some carved up bits of twig from outside to add some realistic wood to the pile.

I'm greatly enjoying this terrain modeling thing...looking forward to next month as I tackle the Post Apoc grocery store!

Berserkers and Other Bits and Pieces Finished!

Well, today saw me finish off these four Viking Berserkers -

Pretty pleased with how they've turned out!

Also finished up these two civilians -

Yes I could've gone back and done the eye's, but oh well.

Also finished up this first Viking Warrior -

And this Terrain Piece that will see battlefields from the Dark Ages on up thru the Early 20th Century -

At some point I'll possibly give the grass a wash as its a bit green for fall colors, but the tree is removable and can be replaced with a spring/summer tree so.......yeah I dunno.

Almost to the end of our first month of the Challenge! Zombtober is just around the corner! Hope everyone is having a blast, and is ready to paint loads of undead!!!

Anglo Danes - 4pts Finished!

Having been gone the last two weeks, it's taken me awhile to finish up the second half of my GB Anglo-Danes. But, I'm glad to report that they are done!

Here's the half a warband I just finished -

And here's the entire 4pts worth, divided into units -

Two 8 man units of warriors, 1 unit of 4 Hearthguard w/Dane Axes, 1 unit of 4 Hearthguard with misc swords, spears, hand axes, and 1 Warlord.

I'm pretty pleased. It's only taken me about 8 months to get them finished, but hey, they're done. Obviously going to be adding to them, and they'll be seeing combat soon hopefully!

Dark Age Assembly

So, since Friday I've been on military duty a ways away from home...bring painting supplies was prohibitive, but I did bring along my boxes of Dark Age Warriors and Saxon Thegns from Gripping Beast to work on assembling. Here's some progress shots -

My rather messy desk in my room.

A Slinger, leader, banner man, and two javliners.

I don't rightly know how to describe him. Haha he may serve as a junior noble in Dux Brit or, just a Hearthguard in saga.

16 gents in various parts of drying in SHIELDWALL!

Sorry I haven't been commenting as much here lately on folks posts...it's incredibly busy and a tad bit on the stressful side during the duty day here, so I've been coming back to my room and relaxing with my assembly to just decompress a bit of an evening. Regularly scheduled programming will start up again next week.

PS - I really like GB plastics, though I do think it's a bit wonky that ALL the weapon arms are right handed. I've had to do a tad bit of cutting and gluing and shaving to make a few lefties. I know it's for ease of production but, if they'd make a few...I'd be happy haha.

4Ground Late Saxon Cottage

Built this kit in approximately an hour today while my son was taking a nap.

It went together very easily, only had to shave one corner of an interior wall a hairs breadth to get it to go in place, and I believe that's due to me not having it completely squared away when I glued the exterior together.

This kits quality once again proves to me that 4Ground is a high quality company and I'm desperately wanting more!

In the time vs money debate, this is the way to go if you have some expendable cash vs extra time. Talking to Chris about the 4Ground Norse Great Hall and while I'm sure I could build one from scratch, it'd take me for bloody ever. So, I'm willing to wait til I can afford it, and then get the kit.

Anyways...so this 6 month challenge thing is starting to take off! Glad to see it, and also welcome to all my new followers!!!

1st Challenge Post!

Well, I actually got some progress made on this first day of the 6 Month Challenge!

First up, this Viking warrior. His weapon hand was buggered, and I kind of thought his stance was too aggressive for just a spear, so I grabbed a axe arm from out of my Gripping Beast Dark Age Warriors box, lopped off the arm, and his hand and pinned the axe in place. Then green stuff'd around and blended as best I could (I'm terrible with GS).

Not too shabby for a first attempt at even minor conversions :-)

Next up, some shield work, and flocking on the rest of the Anglo-Dane Hearthguard and Warriors. There will be further base improvements after all the glue dries, but it's a start.

Better pictures when they're done!

I'm pleased with my first days work.
Comments and critique are always welcome, as are tips!
