First Post of 2018 - Planning

Whew. It's been awhile.  I've been ridiculously busy over the last 8 months with the business, life, full time job etc, but am now getting to the point where I can make time for hobby time.

So going forward -
I have a game of Kill Team coming up next week, so I'm trying to get a Tau Fire Team put together for it. Finished assembly last night and will be priming and starting to paint them tomorrow.

My paint desk is covered at the moment with other painting projects for this year -

Guildball Farmers, Fishermen, Morticians, and Union teams.

Board-Game Figures from Zombicide: Black Plague, Shadows of Brimstone, and Mythic Battles: Pantheon.

A whole host of Gothic horror figures and monsters for a pet project of mine (more to come soon).

I've started another 6 Month Mountain Reduction and Painting Challenge, so minimal to no purchases and hopefully lots of finished figures and terrain pieces.

Also planning on playing way more games this year.

So, that's the quick update.  More posts coming soon.  Hoping to get reviews, battle reports, and progress updates.  Thanks for reading.

I'm Still Here, and with Painted Figures!

Hi everybody! I'm alive and well. Sorry it's been so long since I updated this here blog, have had a lot of stuff going on. Standby for a rather long post.

Around February time, I had to move out of the apartment I was living in, so that started a rather frantic house hunt which led to me buying a 3 bedroom ranch style home, and you better believe it, the 3rd bedroom and most of the basement are devoted to gaming and hobbies!

Then, in March, a fellow firefighter I work with and I decided to start a business together doing remodeling, cabinetry, woodworking etc. and it took off like mad, so I've had VERY little time for hobbying unfortunately. I'm thinking that as winter rolls in, we may slow down a bit, so my wargaming and hobby output should go up a bit.

Also note - there is a 6MMRPC running, started August 1st, and will finish up on January 1st. As you can see haha, I've done terrible with the weekly blog post rule, though I've attempted to stay active in the Conquering the Lead Mountain Facebook page.

But enough nonsense. What have I finally been painting and finishing?!

First up are these two Plague Pits from Gripping Beasts Revenant range. They'll do extremely well as spawn points in most any zombie game and will eventually feature in part of a campaign I'm planning for next year.

Next up are these metal Reaper skeletons. I love these figures, and I'm very happy with how the rust and tarnishing effect came out. These lads will see combat in Frostgrave, SoBH etc.

So this Dark Age/Medieval Batman figure is the first Zombicide: Black Plague figure I've painted. I'm not sure I've done him justice, but I'm definitely looking forward to painting the rest of the figures from the game.

This guy is a Reaper Bones Ogre Champion or Chieftain. I'm happy with how he came out as I sometimes struggle with painting the Bones figures due to the soft detailing.

This bridge is actually part of the terrain set included in the GW Hobbit box set. It's now general terrain and will be used for all manner of game systems ranging from Fantasy and post apocalyptic all the way to Cthulhu games.

Damn errant piece of flock on the explorers hat. These two will see service all over the colonial world as they chase after treasures, mummies, and what not. Not happy with the lady's coat, but I'm calling it done.

And finally - I've been asked a couple times what my recipe is for my flock.
50/50 mix of Alpine Meadow Blend and Summer Lawn Blend with a sprinkle of Dead Fall Forest Debris.

So, a rather decent amount I think.  Not pictured is a Teutonic Mounted Knight that I also finished but forgot to take a picture of.  Happy Gaming, hope you enjoyed the update, and KEEP PAINTING!

1st Post of 2017! Guildball Butchers -

Hello all! Happy New Years to you all...bit late on that, but life's been busy.  Let's start with a quick rundown of last years stats.  Due to the deployment, my numbers for 2016 are way down compared to 2015 but gives me a goal to beat for 2017 -

2016 Finished Figures - 46
2016 Finished Terrain Pieces - 1
2016 Games Played - 4

So the only thing I beat in 2016 was the games played, which to my mind is a positive.
Games Played last year were -
Space Hulk x1
Frostgrave x1
Guildball x2

Now on to the first finished figures of 2017! My first 8 Guildball: Butchers - The KC Slaughterhouse

Ox (Captain) & Princess (Mascot)

Brisket (Striker) & Boiler (Winger)

Fillet (Captain/Striker) & Meathook (Attacking Midfielder)

Boar (Attacking Midfielder) & Tenderiser (Goalkeeper)

The KC Slaughterhouse!

I greatly enjoyed painting this team, and am having to force myself now to concentrating on other projects vs jumping right into painting my next team!  They're lovely figures, though some are a bit fiddly to assemble.

I also finished these two Reaper Bones figures - a Ghost and a Clay Golem.  These two will see combat in many systems such as Frostgrave or SoBH.

Not a bad start to the year I'm thinking!

Forward Planning 3MMRPC has been rubbish.  I've lacked motivation on the painting front due to a lot of stuff going on in my personal life, and am only now getting back into the swing of things with about 5 days left to go...

2/3 of my Lead/Plastic Mountain - tisn't shrinking much.

So, I sat down in one of the brief downtime periods at work last week, to do some planning.  I now have a regular gaming buddy who will play any game, but will only collect and paint Fantasy and Sci-Fi figures so if I want to play historical games, I'll still have to paint both forces.

That being said, I now have extra motivation to get things done as we both want to play more often.  I have a horrible habit of starting a project, and then getting distracted by something else and then not finishing anything.  So I made a list of current on the go projects and prioritized them -

1. Guildball - My game of the year for 2016.

2. Warhammer 30k/40k - yes, I've gotten sucked into this bloody money pit.  That being said, we're still not 100% sure we're going to be using the 40k rules(gasp).  Looking at several rules options and just carting along the fluff which is - lets be honest - pretty fecking cool.

3. Chain of Command - 15mm Germans, Soviets, and Americans. Really keen to get this going as my Dad is a huge WW2 buff and is looking forward to it.  Already have the Soviet infantry platoon finished.

4. Post Apocalyptic - 28mm using either Across the Dead Earth or This Is Not A Test or both.

5. Zombie Apocalypse - 28mm campaign which I already have loads of figures painted for, but lets again be can never have enough zombies.

6. Muskets & Tomahawks - This is also a major interest of my Dad and we've enjoyed the few games we've played with half painted or unpainted figures. Planning on using it for both FIW and AWI.

7. 6mm American Civil War - This project was on hold for the longest time due to me not having found a ruleset that I liked...I then heard a review of "Alter of Freedom" on Meeples and Miniatures and bought a pdf copy and yep, they were exactly what I was looking to just paint the two thousand 6mm figures I have.

8. Dystopian Wars - FSA Fleet.

9. Halo Fleet Battles.

10. Dead Man's Hand - I have one posse already painted, if I can get the 2nd one done we can finally get a game in!

11. SAGA/Dux Brit - I have fully painted 6pt forces for SAGA Vikings and Anglo-Danes, but have Welsh to get done, and am looking to add the forces needed to start running a Dux Brit campaign.

12. The Northern Crusades - Lion Rampant.

13. Ministry of the Occult and Paranormal (MOP) Project

14. 28mm Pirates - I got back from my deployment and for some weird reason I wanted to paint pirates...ordered something like 60+ from Foundry and haven't painted a damn one.

15. Frostgrave/Mordheim - have a painted sigilist warband and am playing around with some ideas for a narrative campaign.

16. 1/72 Ancients - Using "Sword & Spear" I have forces for the Punic Wars and the Roman Conquest of Britain and Gaul.

17. Charlie Don't Surf - 15mm Aussies and NVA/VC.

18. Game of Thrones - 28mm using Dragon Rampant.

19. The HUGE amount of boardgame figures that will be used for many many things.

The plan is to take the list and go down it working on one segment of a project at a time, in order from top to bottom and maybe actually FINISH something.  My next post will be the start of just that with content about Guildball.  Speaking of which -

A pic of a match I played 2 days ago.  My half painted Butchers vs Brewers.

Stand by for more updates SOON!

Soviets, Star Wars, and Dark Age Fantasy

So, here's my first update of the 3MMRPC. It's been a busy week on both the painting and gaming front. We'll detail the painting below, but on the gaming front - I've had to intro games of GuildBall and I must say that I love it! My next update will have my soon to be finished starter set of butchers, planning and thoughts on my scratchbuilt goal and the pitch I'm building.  Confession time, I spent my last two jokers on fleshing out my team, they should be arriving soon.

Now, on to what I've finished this week -
Thirty one 15mm Soviet Infantry Platoon for Chain of Command. Their Wehrmacht opponents are on the paint tray for later in the challenge.

Han Solo and Luke Skywalker for Imperial Assault.

An old Ral Partha figure that I will be using as Melisandre from Game of Thrones Dragon Rampant games.

Shieldmaiden from Bad Squiddo Games. I'm not the best freehand painter of designs, or very good at eyes sooooo I didn't do this figure justice.

Pre-Challenge Work - Frostgrave and a Tank

So in the month that I've been home, I've worked really hard (HA!) to get my Frostgrave warband ready for action.  Below are my results.

Sigilist Band, with Sigilist and Apprentice, Ranger, Thief, 2x Infantrymen, Crossbowman, Knight, Archer, and Marksman.

Close up of the Sigilist and Apprentice, both from North Star's Frostgrave Range.

Close up of the Ranger and Thief. Merry and Aragorn from GW's Lord of the Rings game.

Two Infantrymen from FireForge's Teutonic Infantry box, and a Perry Knight.  I attempted to paint the House Bolton Sigil from Game of Thrones, as these guys will also see service in my House Bolton force for Dragon Rampant.

Marksman and Archer, both from the Perry English Army box, and a Crossbowman from the Fireforge Teutonic Infantry set.

Last but not least - a 15mm T-34 for use with my Chain of Command and I Ain't Been Shot Mum Soviet forces. Yes I base my vehicles!

And here's a shot of my workbench for the 3MMRPC...I'm insane!

A Long Hiatus and the return of the 6MMRPC

Hey all, it's been a very very long time since I've posted. I was deployed to the Middle East for awhile and had spotty connectivity. That being said, I'm now home and ready to get kicking on the wargaming front again!

So, we're kicking off the 3 annual painting challenge TOMORROW, September 15th, and it will run through December 15th. We're only doing 3 months mainly because 6 months is a long time to not buy minis and it'll end before Christmas...easing the guilt haha. I will be tagging posts associated with this challenge as "3MMRPC".

Expect more entries to be posted up soon!
